Day 7

Beach sculpture

Today was laundry day as we finally made it to the laundromat. Parents,  I think your sons will have a better appreciation of what actually gets done around your house. After laundry we headed to Barceloneta beach as it was a beautiful day. The beach was absolutely gorgeous. For being in the middle of winter the beach was bustling with activity. I can't imagine how busy it must be in the summer time. We had lunch on the beach at a tapas restaurant and I finally got the guys to be more open in terms of their food choices as a few of them tried seafood Paella for the first time and surprise surprise they liked it. After the beach we headed to our second game of the tournament against Hula a premier private boys school from here in Barcelona. None of these teams look particularly impressive before the game however, once the game begins it is a different story. This team is the number one school team in Barcelona and they lived up to that billing. The half time score was 52-47, however, in the second half they found another gear and ran away with the game 105-74. Their precise passing was impressive as was their ability to play at full speed while still being in control. Leading the way for us was Jaden Narwal with 18 points, Aman Mehat had 11 points and Hunter Welsh 10 points. The reason we are in Spain is because Spain is the #2 ranked country in the world FIBA rankings.  Their teams play with such skill, passion and precision. Despite the loss, there are numerous lessons that we can take away from this experience. Our next game is against the home team who lost to Hula by one point yesterday. Wish us luck!
