Today was the final day of the tournament against the host team C.E Diagonal Mar. Determined not to go win less in the tournament we started the game with a definite sense of urgency and played at a tempo that our opponents were not comfortable with. Despite our urgency we found ourselves down by 10 points in the second quarter. However, by halftime we had taken a 3 point lead. In the second half we found our range from the 3 point line and began to extend our lead. As well, Hunter gave a yeoman like effort on the defensive end shutting down the opposing centre who was 4 inches taller and heavier. We went 7 for 8 from the free throw line in the final 90 seconds to seal the victory 72 - 65. Leading the way was Mo Aghelnejad with 19 points, followed by Aman Mehat with 18 points and Jaden Narwal with 11 points. We placed 3rd in the tournament, we were awarded the team fair play award and Hunter Welsh was named the best defensive player of the tournament. It was a satisfying way to end the tournament.
Next was the real treat of the day, watching an F.C. Barcelona football match at the iconic Camp Nou stadium. The view is absolutely amazing, it is almost surreal. F.C Barcelona did not disappoint as they easily won the match 4-0 providing the 90,000 fans with some brilliant goals. The only disappointing part was that Lionel Messi did not play however, he was at the stadium in the stands cheering his teammates on.
Tomorrow we depart Barcelona and travel to Montpellier France by train, where we will face two much older opponents over the next 4 days. On Friday we will travel to Nimes and stay one night for a match against the Nimes U18 basketball team. Buenos Noches from Barcelona.
